A celebration that unites music, flavors, and traditions of Southern Italy and Piedmont, with concerts, DJ sets, street food, markets, and activities for the whole family
Saturday August 22, from 6:00 PM, Cascina Santa Margherita in Alba hosts the second edition of La Taranta, the festival that brings into dialogue the popular traditions of Southern Italy and Piedmont through music, gastronomy, and the desire to come together.
After last year’s debut in Scaparoni, the event returns with an evening of free admission that will accompany the audience until late into the night with concerts, DJ sets, street food, markets, and activities dedicated to the little ones as well.
North and South meet at the table and on stage
The guiding thread of the evening will once again be the encounter between different territories and cultures.
It begins with the cuisine, featuring Apulian and Piedmontese street food, and arrives at the music, where popular repertoires and sounds from North and South will alternate on the same stage.
Bringing the rhythms of the South to Alba will be Amarimai, a project born in the heart of Lucania that recovers instruments, songs, and sounds from the peasant tradition of Southern Italy, reinterpreting them through contemporary musical research open to contaminations.
Piedmont will instead be represented by La Cricca dij Mes-cià, a folk ensemble born in 2013 that has built its repertoire starting from ancient Piedmontese songs, rearranged in a more rhythmic and danceable form, then accompanied by original compositions.
Two different ways of working with popular musical memory, united by the desire to transform it into something alive, participatory, and capable of making people dance.
DJ sets until late into the night
After the concerts, the music will continue with DJ sets by ZLAI and Ruben Lombroso.
ZLAI, DJ, producer, and vinyl collector of Alba origins, comes from a long journey through Barcelona’s underground scene. His sets weave through Disco, Italo Disco, and House, blending classics, rarities, and lesser-known tracks.
Ruben Lombroso instead brings behind the console a musical exploration that ranges from electroacoustic music to clubbing, between funk, house, and avant-pop, always accompanied by his record collection.
Markets and activities for children
La Taranta will not be only music and gastronomy.
During the evening there will also be a market area, while Umberto and Elena will engage children with moments of entertainment and juggling.
An offering designed for families as well, and for those who want to experience the event from late afternoon onward, among food, performance, and music.
